Major terrestrial broadcasters SBS and MBC have decided to stop streaming services on YouTube and will instead expand their content on the nation’s top portals Naver and Daum Kakao.
They aim to counter YouTube's dominance in the domestic online video market. The U.S. company accounts for 80 percent market share compared to less than 5 percent for the Korean rivals.
The measure will take effect next Monday and will apply to PCs and mobile devices.
Cable channels here are expected to follow suit.
