39 Injured in Japan Quake

Cleanup has begun in the mountainous area of central Japan where a powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Saturday night, injuring at least 39 and causing several homes to collapse.

The quake was centered near Nagano and was felt as far away as Tokyo. Since the quake hit inland, no tsunami warnings were issued.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake also temporarily halted high speed train service, caused several major roads to cave in, and shut down others because of landslides.

No damage has been reported at the Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant, the world's largest.

The plant has been off-line since the 2011 earthquake that destroyed the Fukushima Number One plant and sent three reactors there into meltdown.

Material for this report came from AP, and Reuters.
