Chinese swimmer Sun Yang was banned for three months after failing a doping test in May, ahead of the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, it was belatedly revealed on Monday.
According to Chinese media, Sun was slapped with a three-month suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance.
The relatively short suspension and cover-up at the time has raised suspicions that China was desperate for Sun to compete in the Asian Games in Incheon.
Sun won three gold medals and a silver in the quadrennial event in September.
