Great Places to Go for Jeju's Nighttime Views

By day, Jeju is often crowded with tourists exploring beautiful beaches and breathtaking scenery. But travelers might miss some of the island's hidden charms if they spend time inside at night. Some places are especially beautiful as night falls.

◆ Hyeopjae Beach

Hyeopjae Beach in the western part of the island offers a range of attractions. Its emerald seawater and white sand along the beach stretching about 200 m attract many visitors, as does a stone tower that creates picturesque scenery. A tiny island called "Biyang Island" is visible in the distance as if it is a mirage.

Though certainly beautiful during the day, at dusk the purple and scarlet hues from sunset come to life. Visitors experience a stunning combination of sky and sea.

◆ Observatory

Jeju Starlight World Park and Planetarium, an observatory, offers clear, close views of stars in the night sky, making it the best place to enjoy Jeju's nighttime views. It is open to everybody who is interested in astronomy. The three-story building has exhibition halls, a 4-D theater and some ride facilities.

Visitors also can identify constellations, watching them through a large dome screen on the ceiling. It is a perfect place to observe the sun during the day and beautiful stars at night.

◆ Saeyeon Bridge

Saeyeon Bridge, which connects Seogwipo with a tiny islet nearby, is the longest pedestrian bridge in the country.

Illuminated with lights of various colors along the bridge at night, it boasts spectacular nighttime views and recently emerged as a hot spot, especially among young couples who want to have romantic outings.

The bridge leads to a park on the islet, which has a small trail perfect for a relaxing stroll.

Too bad mixing and matching things isn’t always as easy as it is with the new i smell great fragrance line.

Like when it comes to mixing and matching prints… I start out trying to create a cool-girl outfit but usually end up looking like I created my wardrobe in the dark.

Or cooking! Note to self: randomly throwing things from the fridge into a pot, and then praying that it turns into something edible, is not a legit food philosophy. I can tell you first hand that it works less than half the time.

But when I mix and match and layer any of the four gentle fragrances in the new i smell great line, totally different story. Every concoction I try turns out fantastic.

i smell great (2)

New from the creator of CLEAN, i smell great currently has five products and four fragrances. I’ve just started using them and like every one.

Beach Babe, Candy Crush, Angel Cake and Wild Honey ? the four scents ? are gentle, surprisingly long-lasting and very light, so they aren’t overpowering, and they’re designed to be mixed and layered together to create unique scents (of course you can also wear them individually).

i smell great: the four fragrances

beach babe: Ah, take me away to a land of tropical breezes, coconut cream and golden suntan oil…candy crush: Mouthwatering candied flower petals, rose syrup, icing sugar and candy hearts to tempt and tease you.angel cake: A comfy, cozy scent with notes of pink icing, powdered sugar and candied almonds…with a touch of sweetness. wild honey: A soothing synthesis of honey, brown sugar, Tahitian vanilla and sweet nectar make this intoxicating aroma irresistible.

Go Wild, Honey, ‘Cause I’m Candy Crushing on This Beach Babe: With i smell great, Mixing and Matching Makes Scents

With a few of my favorite products from the new i smell great line

The following post is sponsored by i smell great. From the creator of CLEAN perfume, the scents you love, extracted, encapsulated, bottled. Isn’t that great? Learn more at ismellgreat.com.

Just call me “wild candy beach babe!”

Not a bad nickname, right? Got a nice ring to it. Could be a good backup drag queen name, in case I ever get tired of Kitty McDiamond. :)

Wild candy beach babe is my very own personal scent concoction, a layered combination of three products from i smell great, a brand new fragrance/beauty line by the creator of CLEAN perfume, Randi Shinder, and perfume industry vet/blogger Jane Daly.

There are four fragrances ? Beach Babe (my fave), Candy Crush, Angel Cake and Wild Honey ? and five product families. I like all of them by themselves, but I REALLY like this combo: Candy Crush Soft Body Whip ($28), Wild Honey Eau de Parfum ($68) and Beach Babe Hair Fragrance ($32), all worn together.

The whole mixing/matching/layering thing is a big part of these, because they were designed to layer seamlessly together.

Still, I’m kind of surprised that I haven’t come up with a gross combo yet. No matter which products I’ve layered, the resulting aroma smells fresh and feminine, like “La-dee-da! I just stepped out of the shower and skipped through a spring meadow.” Nothing too spicy or fruitastically sweet. Just chill, relaxed fragrances that one can wear practically anywhere.

i smell great: the four fragrances

beach babe: Ah, take me away to a land of tropical breezes, coconut cream and golden suntan oil…candy crush: Mouthwatering candied flower petals, rose syrup, icing sugar and candy hearts to tempt and tease you.angel cake: A comfy, cozy scent with notes of pink icing, powdered sugar and candied almonds…with a touch of sweetness. wild honey: A soothing synthesis of honey, brown sugar, Tahitian vanilla and sweet nectar make this intoxicating aroma irresistible.

To put it another way, these delicate, light fragrances do not trigger trumpets and spotlights when you enter a room. They are not obnoxious or overly strong, and the average human could not possibly smell them from a mile away.

Instead, they’re like something you might catch a whiff of when you hugged your best friend. Of course, right after you squeezed her good and tight, you’d have to ask, “What is that you’re wearing?” Then you’d make a note on your phone to check it out.

i smell great: the five product families

eau de parfum ($68, 58ml): Delicate, light and long-lasting.wellness water mist ($32, 200ml): Delicate and lighter than the perfume, it’s in a base of purified water, aloe and glycerin. I like to spray this all over my bod after a shower.soft body whip ($28, 200ml): A highly moisturizing lotion with soothing almond oil, coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E. It absorbs quickly, lasts a long time and doesn’t leave a greasy film.reactive lush lip ($28, 9g): A sheer, moderately moisturizing tint with good taste. All of them have a different flavor. Only problem: I’m always tempted to lick them off my lips.hair fragrance ($32, 150ml): A gentle conditioner to add shine to your mane. Makes hair feel and smell cleaner, longer. Ideal for post-workouts when you don’t have time to wash your hair…or it’s just too darned cold outside.

Despite their subtlety, these i smell great fragrances do not disappear right after you put them on, and that’s because of the power of self-renewing scent spheres, which is fancy-talk for “these fragrances stick around for a good 6-8 hours.”

Like something out of the Capitol in Hunger Games, touching or rubbing an area where you’ve applied them reactivates the scents.

I witnessed their longevity in action last Friday, when I sprayed the Beach Babe Hair Fragrance on my mop after my workout (didn’t have the time/motivation to wash my hair). It was date night for me and El Hub ? dinner and a movie ? and then bed a couple hours after we got home.

When I got up the next morning and ran a brush through my hair, I could still smell Beach Babe.

That’s like 12 hours later!

If the thought of mixing and matching your own aromatic elixir and creating your very own personal fragrance profile sounds enticing, i smell great’s Eau de Parfums ($68 each), Hair Fragrances ($32 each), Wellness Water Mists ($32 each), Soft Body Whips ($28 each) and Reactive Lush Lips ($28) are available now at ismellgreat.com (I don’t think they’re carried in stores yet).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. TGIF! :) Mockingjay tonight!

'Sopranos' star Gandolfini mourned as a great craftsman

By Chris Francescani

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Fellow actors mourned James Gandolfini as a great craftsman and a warm and generous man at a his funeral on Thursday, a week after the 51-year-old star of the HBO television show "The Sopranos" died of a heart attack while visiting Rome.

"Sopranos" creator David Chase and the actor's wife Deborah Lin Gandolfini were among four speakers at a packed ceremony for the actor whose performance as a cigar-chomping New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano made him a household name.

Most of the cast of "The Sopranos," including Edie Falco, who played Tony Soprano's wife, and Michael Imperioli, who played his nephew Christopher Moltisanti, attended the 90-minute ceremony at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in upper Manhattan.

"It was heaven on earth. You could feel James' presence," actor George Loros, who played mobster and FBI informant Ray Curto in the series, said about the funeral.

GOD-GIVEN GIFT

Loros, who was visibly moved by the service, and other actors praised Gandolfini's generosity, dedication and talent.

"He could be talking like you and I are talking right now," Loros told Reuters, "and then he could be called to the set and be just brutal (as an actor). He had such a God-given gift."

New York actor Tommy Bayiokos, who worked on the fifth season of "The Sopranos," described Gandolfini as "a master of his craft."

Laila Robins, who played Soprano's mother as a young woman in the early seasons of the show, said Gandolfini had an acting coach on the set.

"That was so sweet, and I remember that about him the most - just how badly he wanted to do a good job. He worked so hard," she added.

Scores of fans waited in the sweltering heat to get a glimpse of actors Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, Chris Noth and Julianna Margulies, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as they entered the cathedral.

Other fans managed to get into the funeral service, which was led by the Very Reverend Dr. James A. Kowalski.

On Wednesday about 100 people attended a private wake for the actor in New Jersey. Gandolfini, who was raised in a working-class neighborhood, shared Tony Soprano's Italian-American heritage and New Jersey roots.

Broadway theaters dimmed their marquees on Wednesday night in memory of the actor, who also had a successful stage career.

Gandolfini collapsed in the bathroom of his hotel room in Rome while vacationing with his 13-year-old son, Michael. He had been scheduled to attend the closing of the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily. He body was flown to the United States on Sunday.

Gandolfini's portrayal of a gangster who ordered hits on his enemies and saw a therapist to talk about his insecurities, was the signature role of his career and won him three Emmy Awards as best actor in a drama series. The show ran for six seasons.

In 2009 Gandolfini was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in "God of Carnage." He also appeared in "On the Waterfront" in 1995 and "A Streetcar Named Desire" in 1992.

The actor had been working on an upcoming HBO series, "Criminal Justice," and has two films due out next year. He also appeared in the crime drama "Killing Them Softly" and "Zero Dark Thirty," a film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

Apart from his son Michael with his first wife, who he divorced in 2002, Gandolfini is survived by his wife and daughter Liliana, who was born last year.
