'Interstellar' Draws 8 Million Viewers


According to the Korean Film Council on Monday, Hollywood blockbuster "Interstellar" hit the 8-million mark in cinema attendance here, some three weeks after its release on Nov. 6.

It drew more than 352,000 moviegoers on Sunday alone, bringing the total to 8.31 million.

As the film still draws a herd of spectators, it is expected to soon hit the 10-million mark in attendance. Only two foreign films -- James Cameron's "Avatar" and Disney animation "Frozen" -- drew over 10 million viewers here.

"Interstellar" follows a team of explorers who travel through space in search of a habitable planet.

Its star-studded cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon.

"Set Me Free" is a coming-of-age film directed by Kim Tae-yong and starring Choi Woo-sik. It is expected to be a very successful indie film as it continues to gain attention thanks to rave reviews and word of mouth.

Choi has established himself as a promising actor both in films and on television, with fans anticipating his next move.

Kim's work is equally impressive. He was the youngest director to have a film screened at the Cannes International Film Festival when his short film "Frozen Land" was selected for the Cinefondation in 2010.

'Interstellar' Draws More Than 6 Million Moviegoers


More than six million people have watched "Interstellar" here since its release 17 days ago.

The sci-fi film was watched by more than 480,000 moviegoers on Sunday alone, bringing the total to 6.85 million viewers, according to the Korean Film Council.

It has become Christopher Nolan's most successful film in Korea, surpassing the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight Rises," which was watched by 6.39 million viewers here in 2012.
