In the ongoing controversy over Chinese swimmer Sun Yang, the World Anti-Doping Agency is stepping in to investigate the athlete.
The decision comes after it was belatedly revealed that Sun tested positive for a banned substance in July but only suspended for three months so he was able to take part in the Incheon Asian Games in September.
Under global regulations, all athletes caught with a banned substance need to be reported to WADA within 20 days. But China never reported the test results.
WADA pledged to further investigate the issue and may take it to the Court of Arbitration for Sports.
